Shift At Midnight kept its free demo on Steam after the full game launched, which is not what usually happens — most demos come down on release day. If you want to try a shift before paying $9.99, the download is still there.

What to know before downloading
The demo is still available
Checked 5 August 2026
Most demos are pulled when the full game launches. This one was not — the store page for Shift At Midnight still carries a "Demo Available / Download Demo" module two weeks after the 22 July 2026 release.

It is called Shift At Midnight Multiplayer Demo
Steam app 4050060
The demo is a separate Steam app listed under the full game rather than a mode inside it, so it installs on its own and does not require owning the paid version.

Free, and built around the same co-op
Up to three players
The demo is online co-op for up to three players, matching the full game. The premise is the same — work a shift, screen the customers, and find out which of them are only pretending to be human.

Windows only
Platform
The demo lists Windows support and nothing else. There is no macOS or Linux build, which matches the full game's platform support.

It has been out since September 2025
Ten months before launch
The demo released 29 September 2025, roughly ten months ahead of the full game. If you played it during that window, what you played is the pre-release build rather than anything added since.

The demo surviving release is the useful part here. A demo that is pulled on
launch day leaves you deciding from trailers and reviews; one that is still up
lets you find out whether the screening loop holds your attention before
spending anything.
What it will not tell you is how much of the full game you are seeing. Steam
does not publish the demo’s scope, and we are not going to guess at it — if you
want to know whether a specific system is in there, the demo itself is the only
answer available.
Being online co-op, the demo shares the full game’s matchmaking, so it can also
leave you staring at a lobby that never fills. Getting a lobby to work
covers the branch the developer published for that.
