Where to Play Shift At Midnight

Shift At Midnight sells on two storefronts and no others. It is $9.99 on Steam for Windows, $9.99 on the Xbox store for Series X|S and PC, and it is included with Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost. There is no PlayStation version, no Switch version, and no Mac or Linux build.

Every storefront, and what each one costs

Steam

Windows PC, $9.99

The original storefront and the one the developer points everyone at. Windows only — Steam lists no macOS or Linux build, so a Mac cannot run it natively. Released 22 July 2026.

Strengths

  • Carries the free demo as a separate download
  • Family Sharing and Steam Achievements are listed

Weaknesses

  • Windows only, with no Mac or Linux build

Xbox Series X and Series S

Console, $9.99

The Xbox store lists the same game at the same price, published by Kwalee and developed by Bun Muen, with the same release date of 22 July 2026. It is marked as optimised for Series X and S.

Strengths

  • Same price as Steam
  • Listed with 4K, achievements and cloud saves

Weaknesses

  • Series X and S only, with no Xbox One version listed

Xbox Game Pass

Included, no separate purchase

The Xbox store page carries a second offer alongside the $9.99 one, priced at zero and labelled as included with Xbox Game Pass. If you already subscribe, this is the cheapest way to play it.

Strengths

  • No purchase needed while the subscription is active

Weaknesses

  • Access ends if the game leaves the catalogue or you stop subscribing

Xbox Play Anywhere

One purchase covers console and PC

The Xbox listing carries the Play Anywhere label, which means a single purchase on the Microsoft Store entitles you on both Series X or S and Windows PC. Its store platform list also names Xbox Cloud Gaming and handheld.

Strengths

  • Buy once, play on console and Windows
  • Cloud saves are listed, so progress follows you between them

Weaknesses

  • Applies to the Microsoft Store copy, not to a Steam purchase

PlayStation 5

Not available

Shift At Midnight is not on the PlayStation Store. A search there returns only unrelated titles, and neither Bun Muen nor Kwalee has announced a PS5 or PS4 version. Checked 6 August 2026.

Weaknesses

  • No listing, no announced port and no release window

Sources: PlayStation Store

Nintendo Switch

Not available

There is no Switch listing either. Searching Nintendo's American and European stores returns other games with Midnight in the title and nothing by this developer. Checked 6 August 2026.

Weaknesses

  • No listing in either regional Nintendo store

itch.io

The original demo, now closed

This is where the game started, as a free single-player demo of roughly forty minutes. The page is still up, but it no longer offers a download — the developer's own note there sends readers to the Steam version instead.

Weaknesses

  • No downloadable file remains on the page
  • The build it described was single-player, before co-op existed

Sources: itch.io

Mac and Linux

Not supported

Neither store lists a macOS or Linux build. Steam's platform field records Windows alone, and the Xbox listing gives Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher as its operating system requirement.

Weaknesses

  • No native build on either platform

Two storefronts sell this game and a third used to give an older version of it away. That is the whole picture, and most of the confusion around it comes from the fact that the Xbox release was announced late — it was added during the second delay, after the game had already been written about as a Steam title.

If you only came for the link, it is on Steam for Windows and on the Xbox store for Series X and S, at $9.99 on both.

What Game Pass changes

The Xbox store page lists two prices for the same game. One is $9.99. The other is zero, described as included with Xbox Game Pass.

That matters more than it usually would here, because $9.99 is a low enough price that a subscription rarely decides anything. What it decides in this case is the shape of a co-op night: this is a game for up to three people, and getting two friends to spend $9.99 each on something they have not played is a harder ask than getting two friends who already subscribe to install it.

The listing also carries the Play Anywhere label, so a purchase on the Microsoft Store covers both the console and a Windows PC rather than one of them. A Steam purchase does not — the two storefronts sell separate copies.

Why there is no PlayStation version

There is no PS5 build and none has been announced. That is worth stating plainly because the absence has an obvious shape to it: the game shipped on Xbox and Game Pass on day one, which is a single certification path covering console, Windows and cloud at once. PlayStation would be a second one.

What we can confirm is only the absence. Neither Bun Muen nor Kwalee has said a port is off the table, and a small game selling well is exactly the kind that gets one later — so treat this as the position in August 2026 rather than a permanent answer. The same applies to Switch.

Where the itch.io page fits

Shift At Midnight existed before Steam. The developer published a free single-player demo on itch.io, about forty minutes long, and it did well enough to become the game that is now on sale.

That page is still online and still describes the game, which is why it keeps turning up in searches. It no longer offers a download. The developer’s own note on it says the demo was upgraded into a multiplayer Steam version and links there — so if you arrive at itch.io looking for something to install, there is nothing on that page to install.

Trying it before you pay

There is still a free demo on Steam, which is unusual this long after release, and it is the only free way in that does not involve a subscription. It is listed as its own Steam app, so installing it does not require owning the paid version.

If you want to know what you are buying first, what a shift involves covers the two halves of the game that fight each other for your attention, and the customer roster is the reference that makes the screening survivable once you own it.

Frequently asked questions

Where can you buy Shift At Midnight?

Two places. It is $9.99 on Steam for Windows, and $9.99 on the Xbox store for Xbox Series X and S. Those are the only storefronts selling it. Xbox Game Pass subscribers get it at no extra cost.

Is Shift At Midnight on Xbox?

Yes. It launched on Xbox Series X and S on 22 July 2026, the same day as the Steam version, at the same $9.99. The store lists it as optimised for Series X and S, and does not list an Xbox One version.

Is Shift At Midnight on Game Pass?

Yes. Its Xbox store page carries an offer priced at zero, described as included with Xbox Game Pass, alongside the ordinary $9.99 purchase. That makes a subscription the cheapest route to the full game.

Is Shift At Midnight on PS5?

No. It is not listed on the PlayStation Store, and neither the developer nor the publisher has announced a PS5 or PS4 version. Xbox is the only console you can play it on as of August 2026.

Is Shift At Midnight on Nintendo Switch?

No. Searching Nintendo's American and European stores returns no listing for it. As with PlayStation, no Switch version has been announced.

Can you play Shift At Midnight on Mac?

Not natively. Steam records the game as Windows only, with no macOS or Linux build, and the Xbox listing requires Windows 10 or newer. The same is true of the free demo.

Can Steam and Xbox players play together?

Neither store says so. The Xbox listing advertises Xbox cross-platform co-op, which covers Xbox consoles and Windows through the Microsoft Store. Steam does not carry a Cross-Platform Multiplayer tag at all, so play between a Steam copy and an Xbox copy is not something either storefront claims.

Can you still get Shift At Midnight on itch.io?

The page is still there, but there is no download on it any more. It hosted the original single-player demo, and the developer has since redirected that page to the Steam release.
