Shift At Midnight Endless Mode Guide

Finish Story Mode to unlock the Endless beta. Start with the unlock and continuation steps below, then use the preparation checklist for the forest, customer screening and survival supplies. The version notes explain why older advice about patience and cameras can be out of date.

Checked 14 October 2026. This guide combines the developer’s instructions with a linked public ending screen. The checklist is an editorial way to put those mechanics into a shift; it is not a claimed hands-on test of the latest build.

Unlock and continue after Story Mode

  1. Finish the story campaign. Bun Muen’s official FAQ states that Story Mode has 13 nights and that completing it unlocks the Endless beta. For story and ending information, use the story guide.
  2. Read the ending’s save message. A public player’s ending screen shows a Grave Decision ending, a message that the save has changed to Post-Story Mode, and a Continue button. This is an August 2026 report, rather than a current-build capture by this wiki.
  3. Use Continue for that post-story route. The same screen says you can keep playing endlessly. Treat a completed story save as post-story progression when it displays that message; check the slot description before replacing a campaign you want to keep.

The developer’s unlock wording does not specify the True Ending. The public Grave Decision screen supports a continuation route through a different ending. It does not establish every ending’s save behaviour, a separate new-run menu path, or whether a guest receives the host’s unlock. If your option is missing after completion, keep the platform, save-slot and ending details for a bug report; the troubleshooting guide covers lobby and loading checks.

Story Mode and Endless Mode

QuestionStory ModeEndless / Post-Story play
What is the goal?Complete the 13-night campaign.Continue through infinite nights; the developer calls it a beta.
What extra threat should I plan for?Use the customer screening routine.Rakes can approach from the forest.
What changed in the September update? The customer additions also apply here.Computer cameras, restored patience and revised starting supplies.

The modes share the shop and investigation task described on the Steam store page: stock shelves, handle deliveries, clean, examine IDs and cross-check customers on the computer. Keep that routine when outside threats demand attention.

Prepare your first endless shift

Use this order as a planning aid, adjusting it to the situation and your team:

  1. Check the storage room before spending. The September patch provides two bear traps and two planks for the first Endless shift, and allows three additional bear-trap purchases. Count what is actually available in your save before choosing a defensive setup.
  2. Locate the computer’s camera view. Make that your forest-check point; in co-op, agree who will call out an approaching threat so everyone does not abandon the counter at once.
  3. Keep a ranged response available during shop hours. July’s update adds a second purchasable gun. Decide who can react while someone else handles a customer.
  4. Prepare a fallback. The store’s documented survival response is to barricade, place traps and hide when creatures return. Choose your retreat before you need it. The basic walkthrough explains that transition.

The supply counts come from the 1 September developer update. The second gun comes from the 29 July update. Neither note publishes a best trap layout, weapon price or guaranteed survival strategy.

Rakes and the security cameras

The July announcement puts Rakes in Endless / Post-Story play: they approach from the forest, and the developer instructs you to shoot them before they reach the playable area. September’s cameras are viewed on the computer and help you watch for forest threats.

Check the view, call out the approach, then make the documented ranged response. Decide who covers the register during that interruption. Resume the ID and customer checks afterward rather than treating a quiet camera as proof that everyone inside is human.

The cited notes do not state a hit count, a spawn timer or a permanent-kill rule for Rakes. There is no justified damage or wave table to memorise here. For the different music-box encounter, use the Marionette notes.

Patience, reports and version changes

Dated sourceChange relevant to your run
29 July 2026Rakes and a second shop-hours gun were added; Endless / Post-Story patience was removed.
1 September 2026Cameras and starter supplies were added, and Endless patience was restored.

For a build containing the September changes, plan for patience while serving customers. Advice based on August’s unlimited deliberation is outdated for that mechanic; agree on short evidence callouts rather than skipping checks.

The September note also removes quota, personal funds and pet information from the Endless End Of Day Report and disables emails. Report fields being removed does not establish that every underlying money or quota mechanic has been abolished. Use what the game shows during your shift rather than assuming a missing report row makes a task irrelevant.

Beta status and the next update

The Steam listing still advertises a free major Endless update for Q4 2026. That is a roadmap statement, not a date or confirmation that its promised content is in your installed build. The official announcement feed returned a 1 October sale post as the newest item in this check; the newest gameplay changelog returned was 1 September.

For the wider systems and narrative, return to the systems reference and story page. Difficulty scaling, achievement eligibility and save-reset behaviour need separate evidence before they can become step-by-step instructions.

Frequently asked questions

How do you unlock Endless Mode in Shift At Midnight?

Complete Story Mode. Bun Muen's FAQ describes a 13-night story and infinite nights unlocked after its completion. A public player's ending screenshot also shows the completed save changing to Post-Story Mode with a Continue button.

Do you need the True Ending to unlock Endless Mode?

The developer's stated requirement is completing Story Mode; it does not name the True Ending. The linked public screenshot shows a Grave Decision ending followed by a Post-Story Mode continuation message. That historical screen is evidence for that route, rather than a test of every current ending.

Where are the security cameras in Endless Mode?

View them on the computer. The 1 September 2026 developer update added cameras so you can monitor threats coming from the forest.

Where do Rakes appear?

The developer places Rakes in Endless Mode and Post-Story Mode. The documented response is to shoot them before they reach the playable area.

Is the major Endless Mode update already released?

On 14 October 2026, the Steam listing still labels the mode as a beta and advertises a free major update planned for Q4 2026. The latest gameplay announcement returned in our check was the 1 September update. A planned quarter is not a confirmed release date.
